Endoscopic Decompression

Endoscopic Decompression

Like a microdecompression laminaplasty, a MED (micro endoscopic decompression) procedure is performed for the treatment of symptomatic spinal stenosis.

MED is different in that an endoscope (TV camera) is used rather than a microscope. Preference for either procedure depends on the surgeon and their comfort level with the visualization.

The microscopic provides three dimensional imaging, the endoscopic two dimensional. In either case, good vision and illumination are critical to this operation since the various tissue and structures that need to be removed can appear similar to normal surrounding tissue including the spinal nerves. Both procedures are effective in performing the micro decompression and have similar outcomes.
